just having had my circuit assembly recently, i felt that the expenses in a watchtower-owned building seemed extremely over-inflated.
over $9000 for two days.
there were approximately 750-800 in attendance each day.

There were not Credit Card / Debit Card machines at my Assembly.
I would think the reaction to such a think would be repulsive. I would have been disgusted by it even before I "woke up".
O.K. that settles it! I have a circuit assembly coming up soon. I'm taking some pics of this WT money making operation and posting them here for all to see. In my neck of the woods it takes place at both D.Conventions & C.A.s.
i was doing some research yesterday on this scripture: 1 corinthians 4:6!.
"now, brothers, these things i have transferred so as to apply to myself and a?pollos for your good, that in our case you may learn the [rule]: do not go beyond the things that are written, in order that you may not be puffed up individually in favor of the one against the other.".
read this from the watchtower 2008, april 15th, page 7:.
'Elders do not go beyond the things that are written in the Bible. And by extension, they do not go beyond the Bible-based counsel written in the publications of the faithful and discreet slave.'

someone commented about the person in the experience asking the wtbts for forgiveness>.

The WTBTS on forgiveness and God on forgiveness........complete opposites!
I had been w/ one congregation where at one time the amount of individuals disfellowshipped was as high as 14. Where was the forgiveness among the BOE?
And then there is the current strong stand on shunning...........'A simple Hello to someone (disfellowshipped) can be the first step that develops into a conversation and maybe even a friendship. Would we want to take theat first step with a disfellowshipped person?' (Keep Yourselves In God's Love pg 207 par 2)
No forgiveness among JWs!

Jesus Christ is known by most as being not only forgiving but good, kind, approachable and every other good quality you look for in a person. J.C. also said he is the exact representation of his Father, which means that God also excels in these qualities.
The WTBTS (esp. the GB) on the other hand are known by the World for being judgmental, mean, harsh, stingy, arrogant and yes in light of their strong stand on disfellowshipping..........unforgiving!

hey i'm wondering if anyone can give some good advice on how to step down in the safest way.. i have served as an ms for a number of years, but can't do it anymore.
i know too much i want to fade in the future when i get some family things straightened out.
i can't move right now so that's out unfortunately.. what should i tell the body?
Stay focused. Remember you're in control not them. All the above are good suggestions. What has worked for me in not serving as an elder has been personal family related matters as a reason (exaggerated of course). Most on the body will respect that.
Hopefully so as not to give the congregation the wrong impression, after the announcement, when it comes time to conclude the meeting they (I trust you have a discerning body of older men) may call upon you for prayer. That usually serves the purpose of letting the congregation know that you are still in good standing. Your wife will also appreciate their allowing you to close with prayer. That is the dignified way of handling it.
